Holocaust Collection

Rosa Niran, Filter of Fear No. 4, 2007, 45.7 x 45.7cm, acrylic on canvas board, 2012.0310

In 2007 The Dax Centre began a collaborative project with the guidance of the Jewish Holocaust Centre which resulted in the 2009 exhibition Out of the dark: the emotional legacy of the Holocaust.  This sub-collection contains over 100 artworks made by survivors, child survivors and children of survivors of the Holocaust.

The stories and testimony of the people who donated their works brings to light the emotional and psychological impact that the Holocaust continues to have on the lives of survivor families, and highlights the intergenerational effects it continues to exert on our society.

The drawings, paintings, textiles and sculptures in the Holocaust Collection embody terrible memories, enduring pain and unspeakable loss.  These artworks come from a place of darkness yet they also carry messages of strength, hope and endurance.
